GPS Fix and Render

Rendering a map from latitude and longitude coordinates was cool, but that was only the beginning. Velogatchi needed to know where the cyclist actually was. For that, I added a NEO-6M GPS module.

I could already render the map around a cursor. The next piece of the puzzle was figuring out where that cursor belonged.

The video shows the dev board sitting on my windowsill, waiting for its first GPS fix. Once it gets one, you can see the map render my current location. Seeing that happen in person was awesome.

In my excitement, I walked around my block with the device in hand and watched the screen update as I moved. I cannot describe how sketchy I felt walking around with all those exposed wires.

This sensor gave me some cool ideas for using the data I could gather from the GPS fixes. Like, maybe getting a rough estimate on how fast a person is going by checking the time and distance between fixes. The fixes could also be collected throughout a ride and used afterward to trace the route taken.
